Position: Program Director

 

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Director has responsibility for the creating, planning, implementing, coordinating and overseeing of the Boys & Girls Club of America programs, local programs as well as supervises Youth Development Specialist (YDS) personnel and volunteers. The Program Director will also assist with day-to-day operations, resource development, care and upkeep of the facility, special events, and community relations.

 

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):

·          Plan and oversee the administration of designated Club programs and activities that support youth development – day to day activities, leagues, clinics and events

o Establish program objectives and goals that are consistent with the organization’s mission.

o Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with these objectives and goals.

o Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of programs and receive proper instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).

·          Maintain Club program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members. Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of the program; that they ensure program areas are safe and Club equipment is maintained in good working condition, organized and stored in a safe and secure manner.

·          Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.

·          Control Club program and activity expenditures within approved budget.

·          Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff and perform these duties in their absence

·          Delegate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, provide ongoing feedback and regular appraisal through performance reviews and evaluations to ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.

·          Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including attendance, activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.

·          Increase visibility of the Clubhouse and effectively recruit new members and volunteers while maintaining those currently enrolled.

·          Devise new programming to meet the needs of the Clubhouse, ensuring that a creative, well-balanced and safe program is provided for all participants.

·          Leave a lasting impact on every member served.

·          Coordinate grant activity to include implementation and administration of grant requirements.

 

 

 

Additional Responsibilities:

·          Ability to communicate effective supervisory techniques to staff, to instigate their involvement in program planning and development, to direct and stimulate staff performance, and to evaluate programs objectively based on statistical activity and intuitive judgment.

·          Ability to make effective presentations to organizational supervisors and to justify information provided; to make similar presentations to community groups and leaders as called upon, in order to generate support for club activities.

·          Desire to work with and help children be productively busy and enjoy club activities; skill in working with family members to assist in problem solving and to counsel as required to maintain smooth club operations; ability to teach and provide an example of a good social attitude, a responsible work ethic, and a high level of communication.

·            Support the Club in fundraising events and make suggestions on future events.

·          Consult with parents concerning member issues.

·          Become familiar with our Member Tracking System.

·          Assume other duties as assigned.

 

Relationships:

·          Maintain professional daily contact with Club staff, volunteers and members, as well as Executive Director in order to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/council.

·          Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member’s parents and others. Assist in resolving complaints/grievances and ensure that all involved are aware of the correct procedures and any new changes to those procedures.

 

Knowledge/Skills Required:

·          Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

·          A minimum of three years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization, specifically in the fund-raising field, sales/marketing or equivalent experience.

·          Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.

·          Ability to provide leadership for the betterment of the organization.

·          Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of the Boys & Girls Club.

·          Knowledge of youth programs and implementation of such programs.

·          Knowledge of basic supervisory practices and techniques.

·          Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18 as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner

·          Highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission

·          Experience in program development and implementation

·          Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher)

·          Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.

·          Demonstrate organization, staff and project management abilities.

SALARY INFORMATION:

            $27,187 – $34,750, DOE

 

HOURS:   8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
